Spare a thought for the ancient Myans today. They now have no way of forward planning whatsoever.

"Yeah I'll have a couple of weeks."
"Great let's go for a Xtabentún"
"I'd love to Dave, but I have to go and see my in laws."
"Blood letting?"
"Always!"
"How about next week?"
"Yeah that'd be great, hang on I'll just note it down on my....um....er...."
"You could write it down on....your....your....well..."
"Do you know what Dave I'll give you a call."
"Sure, absolutely you got my mobile?"
"Yeah it's in my fileofax."
"Whoa, Bob you're still using a fileofax?"
"What of it? I'm an ancient Myan, I'm not exactly going to have a iphone, am I?"
"Good point, well made, Bob."
"Actually I'm thinking of getting rid of it."
"Oh?"
"Yeah it's half empty now."
"I know what you mean, mine has hardly any pages now."
"We should go for that drink."
"Let's do it."
"Yeah."
"I wish I knew what date it was."

Being ancient, I still use a filofax, despite my diary being on my mobile, it takes a few seconds to write an appointment in a filofax, while putting it into my android device is time consuming.
Now and again, I update the electronic version, which seems grateful for the attention. And keeps reminding me at inconvenient times - last, while leading intercessions.
Now the phone stays at home, safely reminding the wife where I am :)
